I have tried many electric ice cream makers. Why?
Because I love ice cream!
But, if you don’t have the chance to test ice cream makers how do you choose the best one? (I’ve tried the Kitchenaid ice cream maker attachment, Cuisinart models, and Lello gelato makers.)
Best Electric Ice Cream Maker
I think the best ice cream maker is the one that works best for you. So how do you decide which is best for you?
Here are some criteria:
Amount of Ice Cream You want to Make: Most electric ice cream makers come in 2 sizes: 1.5 quarts or 2 quarts. I find that 1.5 quarts is a good amount of ice cream for a family of 4, but if you want to make a lot you may want to buy a machine with 2 quarts.
How Often You’ll Make Ice Cream: If you’re going to be making ice cream a few times per month or more then you will want to buy a fully electric ice cream maker. A fully automatic ice cream maker ensures that you don’t have to do any pre-freezing.
Freezer Space: Along the same lines is if you have a lot of freezer space or not. If you buy a machine that requires you to pre-freeze the freezer bowl then you have to put it in the freezer for about 24 hours ahead of time. If you don’t have the freezer space required then you should definitely buy a fully automatic electric ice cream maker.
Size and Counter Space: Some ice cream machines are pretty big. The big machines are needed to fully freezing (no pre freezing required) machines.
Number of Batches: With electric ice cream machines that require pre freezing you must re freeze before each new batch. So if you want to make several batches of ice cream or sorbet or frozen yogurt in a row (I find this easiest) then you should get an electric ice cream maker.
Fully Electric: With the best electric ice cream makers you never have to stir the ice cream by hand the way you do with a hand crank machine.

Why should I have to review just one best electric ice cream maker?
There are several electric ice cream makers that are awesome:
The Lello Gelato maker is the best ice cream maker you can buy for under $1000. (Just check out the amazon reviews if you don’t believe me. One guy who reviewed it used it in culinary school!) They have a cheaper one that is fully freezing for about $200.
The Cuisinart Professional is a good choice for ice cream makers that don’t require pre-freezing.
And if you’re looking for an electric ice cream maker that you must pre-freeze the cuisinart 2 quart is a good option.
I hope you enjoy making ice cream, gelato, frozen yogurt, mixed drinks, etc as much as I do. It’s one of my favorite activities and there’s no way I could do it without the help of my electric ice cream machine.
